In 2002 the TSOT Journal started to be published, due to the gradual need of our colleagues for Turkish sources and acted as a relief for the problems our colleagues were facing in their efforts to attain updated information in parallel to the increasing number of sub-branches. The journal, run by the invited article principle, has asked for selected articles by high profile publications and published them after the appropriate editorial processes. Articles from various clinics throughout the country were asked during the invitation stage. While inviting the articles, scientific diversity has been the primary concern. In addition, despite they were not invited, scientifically high profiled articles sent to our journal, were also published.

In determining the content of the journal we tried to maintain a balance between the various sub-branches of orthopedics and to include one article covering basic sciences. Having collected the novelties on their branches the most reputable scientists of our country specialized in the fields of spine surgery, hand surgery, traumatology, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, pediatric orthopedics and orthopedic oncology have contributed to the education of our young colleagues.

During the editorial procedure, we strived for maintaining the utmost quality and published an 80-page-journal on the premium quality paper. Merely the original photographs were used in the articles. Likewise, originality has been an obligation for the figures. On the other hand, as for the previously published figures, permission was sought. Many illustrations, which did not maintain the journal standards, were re-drawn and put in an appropriate format in the visual sense. Each reference in the manuscripts was double-checked form medline and similar data bases. When deemed necessary, the writers were asked to submit the original articles they referred to, for the sake of confirmation. The copyright of the manuscripts published were registered under TSOT’s name. Furthermore, our colleagues were enabled to access the published issues form TSOT’s web-site.

Originally, our aim was to publish 4 issues per year. However, due to some financial and technical reasons our journal continued with 2 issues a year. Being published without any support of advertisements and sponsors, our journal is distributed to all the members of the association free of charge. As of April 2005, 59 articles were published and 10 more were being evaluated. The feedback of our colleagues and the fact that some colleagues, who are having difficulties in accessing updated topics, keep referring to our journal are encouraging us for further issues.
